There aren’t many things that can make the world pause.

For a few weeks, FIFA did exactly that.

Every match gave us something to look forward to. Whether you were watching with family, friends, or simply relaxing at home, football became more than just a game. It became an escape from deadlines, bad news, work pressures and the endless responsibilities of everyday life.

And honestly, that’s something worth being grateful for.

More Than Just 90 Minutes

Life can sometimes feel like an endless list of things to do.

Work. Bills. Family responsibilities. Emails. Social media. Worries about tomorrow.

It’s easy to become overwhelmed without even realising it.

Then FIFA arrives.

For 90 minutes, none of those things seem quite as important.

Instead, we’re completely absorbed in the match. We celebrate goals, feel the tension of extra time, debate refereeing decisions and experience every emotion alongside millions of other fans around the world.

Those moments allow our minds to rest.

Football Gives Us Permission to Be Present

One of the healthiest things we can do for our mental wellbeing is to be fully present.

Watching a football match naturally encourages mindfulness without us even thinking about it.

Our attention shifts away from stress and focuses entirely on what’s happening in front of us.

That mental break is something many of us desperately need.

It’s not about avoiding reality.

It’s about giving our minds a chance to recover before returning to our daily responsibilities.

We Remember the Importance of Connection

One of the most beautiful things about FIFA is how it brings people together.

Families gather in the living room.

Friends organise watch parties.

Neighbours celebrate together.

Even complete strangers can share a smile after an incredible goal.

In a world where many people report feeling lonely despite being constantly connected online, these shared experiences remind us how important genuine human connection really is.

Every Match Reminds Us Not to Give Up

Football teaches resilience better than almost any other sport.

Teams come back from impossible situations.

Underdogs defeat favourites.

A match can completely change in the final few minutes.

Watching these moments reminds us that life can change just as quickly.

No difficult situation lasts forever.

Sometimes all we need is patience, hope and the courage to keep going.

Small Moments Can Have a Big Impact

We often think happiness comes from major life events.

But sometimes it’s much simpler than that.

Sharing a laugh during a match.

Celebrating a last-minute goal.

Talking about football with friends the next day.

These small moments create memories that stay with us long after the tournament ends.

That’s something we’ve also explored in our article, “I Didn’t Realize I Was Mentally Tired Until I Slowed Down.” We often don’t realise how exhausted we’ve become until we finally give ourselves permission to slow down and enjoy the present. If you haven’t read it yet, you can find it here:

https://livewelldailyblog.com/i-didnt-realize-i-was-mentally-tired-until-i-slowed-down/

Both articles share the same message: taking time to pause isn’t wasting time—it’s an important part of protecting our mental wellbeing.

When the Tournament Ends

Like all good things, FIFA eventually comes to an end.

The stadiums become quiet.

The excitement fades.

Our normal routines return.

But perhaps we can take something valuable with us.

Maybe it’s making more time for family.

Maybe it’s putting our phones away more often.

Maybe it’s simply remembering that we all need moments that allow us to disconnect from stress and reconnect with life.

Thank You, FIFA

Thank you for giving us something to look forward to.

Thank you for bringing people together.

Thank you for reminding us to celebrate, hope, laugh and believe.

Most of all, thank you for helping millions of people escape the stress of everyday life—even if it was only for a few weeks.

Sometimes, that’s exactly what we need.
